Data-based narratives: shaping ODA and global cooperation
Dear Forus Members,
The latest unprecedented 23.1% cut in global Official Development Assistance (ODA), as highlighted in figures released by the OECD represents a growing and urgent concern for many members across the Forus network, with several organisations already launching advocacy and public campaigns in response.
These cuts are already affecting some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. At the same time, public support for aid and international cooperation is being challenged by misinformation, polarisation, and simplified narratives that weaken trust in global solidarity.
Building on discussions and solutions that emerged from the Forus General Assembly last month in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and on the work already being developed by members across the network, Forus will host an interactive session on how CSOs are using data to support communication, advocacy, and public engagement around ODA and international cooperation.
The session will be an opportunity to learn from existing projects, campaigns, and research across the Forus network, including contributions from members such as Dóchas in Ireland and Coordination SUD in France, while also creating space for other members to share relevant experiences from their own contexts.
Key topics will include:
-
How data can help us better understand public attitudes toward ODA and global cooperation
-
How to communicate the human impact of aid cuts on people and communities
-
How to translate data into stronger communication and advocacy strategies
-
Examples from Forus members and partners on approaches to public engagement and international solidarity
