Forus

Join our Forus Communications Café, a workshop designed for civil society platforms to explore creatively their internal and external communications strategies.

Date: 4 September 2024

Time: 13:00-14:30 UTC (Check you local time here)

In the words of the Digital Narrative Studio, “Contemporary digital technologies dramatically change the stories being told, bodies telling them, and the media that shape them both”. How do we navigate this dimension together as civil society networks and build communications plans that help us share our messages? At the same time, how do we transform narratives from the ‘politics of despair’ to forms of collective care action with the power of social media, “offline actions” and campaigns.

We’ll work in small informal groups to address 3 top communications challenges, brainstorm solutions, and create actionable plans for your communication. Please note that the workshop will benefit from simultaneous interpretation in English, French and Spanish.

Why Attend?

  • Step 1: discussion in small groups one of the 3 communications challenges we have identified as a network:
    1) Website development and digital visibility.
    2) Narratives: working in a saturated information space, promoting positive narratives and humanizing concepts (e.g. Agenda 2030, civic space, gender justice). Aligning your “message with your mission” with storytelling and the use of emerging technologies including AI
    3) Doing more with less: doing communications work despite financial or capacity constraints.

  • Step 2: Let’s discuss all together what came out of your discussion groups. Learn from others about their strategies to boost their communications presence and telling their story of change as a network despite the challenges! Discuss challenges, share projects, campaigns, and explore new opportunities with Forus members and partners

  • Step 3: Let’s co-create practical tips on how to overcome communication challenges.

Format & Methodology

  1. Think about the 3 communications challenges and the strategies you have used as a network/organisation to overcome them. If you would like to propose additional topics of discussion, feel free to submit a topic by contacting [email protected] or [email protected].

  1. An additional preparatory email will be sent to Forus members and partners who would like to showcase their experiences, lessons learned and tools. In addition to the tip sheets, we will develop together, we will also be sharing at the end of the workshop some useful resources, toolkits, funding opportunities and microgrants that can support Forus members with their communications work.
