Forus members, digital activists and campaigners will explore tactics around Digital Activism and how to use AI for storytelling. 

We will discuss how we can use social media platforms and online tools for effective advocacy, learn from the impactful campaigns led by the #KeepItOn coalition, and discover how artificial intelligence can be used for storytelling. The workshop will focus on changing narratives while navigating internet shutdowns, online harassment and emerging technologies.

 

Speakers:

 

Felicia Anthonio: Felicia Anthonio is #KeepItOn Campaign Manager at Access Now, a global campaign of over 300 organizations that fights against internet shutdowns. She has authored and co-authored several publications on  internet shutdowns featured on Access Now, Yale University, CIPESA and Bloomsbury Collections websites. Felicia hosted The Kill Switch podcast and was featured on The Shutdown documentary by BBC World Service. Felicia is an Advisory Council member of the US-based Open Technology Fund’s (OTF) and a board member of the World Expression Forum (WEXFO), in Norway. Before joining Access Now, Felicia worked as Programme Associate, press freedom and free speech advocate, at the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) where she coordinated the African Freedom of Expression Exchange (AFEX). She is a member  of the African Digital Rights Network and a 2019 Fellow of the African Internet Governance School (AfriSIG). 

 

Dr. Moses Isooba: Dr. Moses Isooba is the executive director of Forus member, the Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF). Prior to joining UNNGOF, Dr Isooba was a governance advisor with ActionAid Denmark. He also worked as the programme coordinator of the Civil and Political Rights Component of DANIDA Human Rights and Good Governance Programme in Uganda. He is currently a member of the Re-Imagining INGOs (RINGO) Social Lab – a group of Practitioners reimagining INGOs through disruption, innovation and systematic thinking. Under RINGO, Dr. Isooba is the idea carrier of the Language and Lexicon prototype using AI to "decolonise" language.

 

Brian Ritchie: Brian hails from Chapleau Cree First Nation and is the driving force behind Kama.AI, an Indigenous Artificial Intelligence provider, where he serves as Founder and CEO. He possesses a Bachelor of Engineering from Lakehead University and an MBA from Lake Superior State University. Prior to launching Kama.AI, he held prominent VP and Director level roles in sales and marketing at global technology companies including Oracle, Ericsson and ZTE, and. Brian actively engages in advisory capacities, lending his expertise to bodies like Ingenuity at Lakehead University and the Ted Rogers School of Management MBA Program. Moreover, Brian extends his commitment to community service by serving as a board member for Kerry’s Place, Canada’s premier Autism agency, and multiple Indigenous economic development corporations.
