The main theme of the 2025 edition will be “Celebrating Citizen Action: Reimagining Democracy, Rights and Inclusion for Today's World”.

The event comes at a time when civil liberties are curtailed in most countries, where civil society is under attack in 116 of the 198 countries and territories. Freedom of expression, association and assembly face significant obstacles throughout the world.

Given the changing and challenging context, we need to reinvent the way we defend democracy, human rights and inclusion. We must open up new horizons that are inclusive and transcend the traditional boundaries of civil society, by involving broad-based communities, businesses, the education sector and global citizenship in general.
