New approaches, tools, and technologies for advocacy in civil society networks and coalitions
Influence (event)
Webinar April 9th (13:00 -14:00 GMT)
Advocacy innovation inCSO networks and coalitions
Advocacy is at the heart of the work of any civil society network like Forus and its members. In a rapidly changing world, the challenges to mobilize coalitions for change around increasingly complex issues are many. But so are the opportunities to use new approaches and technologies to support civic-driven campaigning and advocacy efforts.
In this webinar, you will hear from practitioners who have been innovating in advocacy by using new processes, tools, and technologies to empower grass-roots movements, strengthen civil society coalitions, and turn network advocacy into more efficient and effective action.
Princess Bazley-Bethea, from Forus memberInterAction, will walk us through the lessons learned from The TogetherProject. This initiative was a response to the challenges faced by U.S.-based organisations confronted by discrimination in the U.S. on the basis of their operating principles or religious faith.
Jen Castro is a community organiser and artist working with Digital Democracy, an organisation which uses technology to empower marginalised communities and enable them to defend their rights. She will share with us Digital Democracy’s experience using Mapeo, a GPS-based tool for community mapping, with indigenous communities in Ecuador and Peru.
With support from Forus, Ana Luísa Silva, PhD candidate from the ISEG, Lisbon School of Economics and Management, working on civil society innovation, will moderate the discussion around the following topics:
· Building strong coalitions around new challenges for CSOs and CSO networks
· New CSO approaches to support grass-roots movements
· Digital technology for civic-driven advocacy: opportunities and challenges
