Seminar ‘Choosing the right security strategy for NGO field operations’

Operations and missions conducted by NGOs are impacted by political and economic contexts and security actors on the ground. Dr. Grazvydas Jasutis offers to analyse security and risk contexts in humanitarian action and overcome the main challenges of security management in the field. The lecture explains three security strategies, characterizes the security risk management process and its implications for field operations.
The participants will gain some knowledge of assessing and applying the security management process to support their operations, programs and projects in the field. The lecturer will share his personal field experience from Asia, Africa, and the Caucasus.
Dr. Gražvydas Jasutis is the chairman of the NGO Trust in Development (Member of Lithuanian NGDO Platform). He works as a consultant at the United Nations, implements security sector reform projects at the Geneva Center for Security Governance, and teaches in Switzerland and France. Trust in Development cooperates with Lithuanian and foreign academic structures, embassies, non-governmental organizations in Georgia, Indonesia, Thailand, Ukraine, Belgium and Lithuania, the United Nations Development Fund and various experts who contribute to the goals of the organization.
Gražvydas' research focuses on conflict management, security sector reform processes, and international violations of humanitarian law committed during armed conflicts, especially in the post-Soviet space.

He has served in EU and OSCE missions in Georgia, Indonesia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Mali and Burkina Faso. He also held senior and advisory positions at NATO Headquarters and the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense. He has conducted research in the North Caucasus, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, and North Ossetia-Alanya. He teaches security policy courses in Switzerland and France.
