📅 UN General Assembly and SDG Summit

When: 19-25 September 2023

The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (19-25 September 2023) marks a crucial milestone in the journey towards achieving the 2030 Agenda and the urgent need to put the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) back on track. In his briefing to UN Member States on 25 April, the Secretary-General highlighted that insufficient progress is being made towards achieving the SDGs.The 2023 Special Edition of the SDG Progress Report released in July confirmed that progress on the SDGs is insufficient and, even worse, going into reverse on more than 30 percent of the SDGs, with the world’s poorest and most vulnerable experiencing the worst effects of these unprecedented global challenges. It also points out areas that need urgent action to rescue the SDGs and deliver meaningful progress for people and the planet by 2030.

As part of the UNGA, Heads of State and Government will gather at the United Nations SDG Summit in New York on 18-19 September 2023 to review the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and provide high-level political guidance on transformative and accelerated actions leading up to the target year of 2030 for achieving the Goals. The outcome will be a negotiated political declaration. You will be able to watch the event live on UN Web TV.
