Webinar - On the road to COP29: Geopolitical tensions and climate negotiations
This spring, Fingo organizes a three-part webinar series discussing the upcoming climate year, focusing on the global landscape of climate negotiations and climate finance. In the series, researchers will present their work and answer questions that concern the audience.
During this first session, Karoliina Hurri will discuss the influence of geopolitical tensions on the United Nations climate negotiations. How do current wars, conflicts, and great power struggles shape the road to COP29? The uncertainties of the upcoming climate conference are underlined by 2024 being the ultimate election year, during which nearly half of the global population can head to the polls. Given these developments, Hurri will review what we can expect from COP29. Karoliina Hurri works as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center on Climate Politics and Security (CLIPS) at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA).
