Himani Singh
India
Based in India, Himani is a Doctoral Scholar and Junior Research Fellow at the Centre for Law and Governance, JNU. Her research focusses in social exclusion with special emphasis on youth from marginalised communities. She holds dual Master’s in the discipline of Development Studies and Social Work respectively. As a Development Professional, her expertise ranges in in-depth understanding of issues of development. Himani has worked with grassroots organisations in rural hinterland of India focussing on building financial empowerment and rural development. As a former Rights Expert with GFoD, she has been actively involved in anti-caste campaign for communities discriminated at work and Descent championing for social justice.
I worked as a Rights Expert with an organisation named Global Forum for Communities Discriminated at work and Descent, my work experience equipped me to realise the policy and regulatory mechanisms which impact youth’s access to rights, especially for the youth belonging to underrepresented groups. To mention, I represented my community at Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) Youth Forum, this platform acquainted me with the diverse challenges faced by youth across Asia-Pacific.
As a PhD scholar enrolled in the Centre for Study of Law and governance, my research interest lies in artificial intelligence and governance, this involves studying about socio- cultural embedded bias emerging from AI reinforces stereotypes thus further marginalising certain communities. My academic journey has equipped me with deeper understanding of these systemic issues and approach it through rights based framework and to advocate for ethical, transparent governance to counter these risks. To further my efforts, I have presented my work at conferences and seminars highlighting the growing concern and a dire need at the part of youth towards equitable access.
