Generating knowledge, guidelines, and tools on the SDGs

NFN aims to act strategically by generating knowledge, guidelines, and tools on the SDGs; connecting and creating value for members; as well as building a positive narrative about CSOs. Besides identifying key international publications; success cases and gathering links to useful learning portals, NFN will also develop new tools, namely a civil society handbook on SDGs both in Nepali and English to be widely shared among CSOs in the country. A toolkit on the voluntary local review (VLR) will also be developed since the voluntary review of SDGs implementation has not been initiated at the province and local government levels in Nepal. The tool will provide directions, recommendations, and indicators for VLR, being useful for both local governments and civil society. Based on this toolkit, two voluntary local review events will be organized, thus building capacity and encouraging collaboration among local governments and civil society. These events will be a participatory exercise aiming for more transparency and accountability in SDGs implementation at the local level. In addition, NFN will organize seven province-level workshops and one national-level workshop with a total of more than 300 participants, aiming to enhance the capacity of NFN members to monitor, contribute and advocate for SDG implementation. With the same goal, a civil society report will be produced ahead of the HLPF, becoming the reference advocacy document for Nepalese CSOs. Not only this project will contribute to strengthening NFN’s links to its members and a large number of other stakeholders in the country, but it will also contribute to further developing existing governance policies through the creation of a strategic plan for 2022-24 and a gender equality and social inclusion policy for NFN. The production of these policies, reports, and toolkits as well as the engagement in local and international SDGs review processes will increase awareness and capacitate NFN and member organizations to be better informed and critically involved in the SDGs.
