About SDG 16+ Forum-Asia : ADA and the members have expertise in SDG 16+ with a special focus on enabling the environment for the civil society, shrinking civic space and the issues of governance, accountability and transparency for the civil society across and beyond Asia. ADA has been actively engaging in the Global SDG 16 Conference , organised by the UN-DESA and International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) and has been voicing the civil society concerns of the global south during this forum apart from Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development, High Level Political Forum, C20, to name a few. The first SDG 16+ Forum, Asia was organised by Asia Development Alliance and its members, Transparency, Accountability, and Participation (TAP) Network, Forus and Global Call to Action against Poverty on September 22, 2021. This forum was part of the Global People’s Assembly 2021 on the sidelines of United National General Assembly, attended by national, regional and global partners, national governments and the UN institutions bringing voices together to reiterate our belief in inclusive institutions, a just society and embracing democratic values and concluded that Democracy and Peace can only be made with people and not without them. The Forum came up with the SDG 16+ declaration which was drawn up based on wide-ranging presentations and deliberations during the 2021 SDG 16 + Forum, and inputs were provided by participating organisations from across the Asia region and internationally. Some of the key recommendations emerged from the forum are following: Looking at the great success and multi-stakeholder participation , the partners and members voiced the issues of making this an annual forum. This SDG 16 Plus Asia Forum will be woven around some critical issues that Asia is facing , especially with deteriorating democracy across the region which is further curtailing the scope of civil society work with more shrinking civic and financial space.
