Pakistan

Ramna Saeed is a young multimedia journalist and digital rights advocate from Pakistan. She has reported for outlets including The Commonwealth, BBC Urdu, Global Voices, Urdu News, The Diplomat, and Digital Rights Monitor, with a focus on internet governance, freedom of expression, and gender justice. Her work highlights the intersection of human rights and technology in South Asia, amplifying marginalized voices through storytelling. She is the founder of She Leads Pakistan, a youth- and women-led initiative promoting gender equality and leadership, and a recipient of the Diana Award for her work on women’s rights.

As a digital multimedia journalist and the current lead of Digital Rights Monitor, a project of Media Matters for Democracy in Pakistan, I work at the intersection of storytelling, advocacy, and policy engagement to advance digital rights and online freedoms. Alongside my journalism, I serve as a core team member of the Youth Advocacy Network (YAN), where I work to advance meaningful youth participation in decision-making spaces, especially in policies impacting sexual and reproductive health and rights. I am also a member of Pakistan’s National Youth Council, advising the Prime Minister on youth affairs, a role that has given me direct experience in shaping and influencing youth-related policy at the highest level.

In my work with Digital Rights Monitor, I have produced investigative features, video reports, and podcasts on issues such as online censorship, internet shutdowns, data privacy, and the politics of digital life in Pakistan. I also coordinate outreach with civil society and journalists, ensuring that conversations on internet governance include the voices of those most affected, women, young people, and marginalised communities.

The opportunity to learn from peers worldwide, co-produce multimedia advocacy projects, and contribute to a Youth Digital Rights Manifesto excites me because it would strengthen my ability to link Pakistan’s local digital rights struggles with global internet governance discussions, while allowing me to use my multimedia skills to tell impactful stories that push for equity, freedom, and inclusion online.
