Amplifying Indian CSO’s role and effectiveness in implementation of SDGs through awareness building and multi-stakeholder connect.
In July 2017, the government of India presented its first Voluntary National Report (VNR) and while the civil society is collaborating with the government and private sector in implementation of SDGs in India, its role as a key player implementation and monitoring of SDGs is not getting articulated in the reports being prepared and presented.
VANI envisions enhanced role play and visibility of the Voluntary Sector in monitoring and implementation of SDGs in India. It wants to create a Civil Society SDG Forum, collectivize the sector, monitor the implementation of SDGs at a national level, and regularly connect with the regulatory agencies on SDG implementation. Through this project, VANI shall leverage its strong relations with different stakeholders including voluntary organizations, government and corporate to address the problem area through a two-pronged approach: at micro level, with the help of VANI’s already existing regional hubs and member voluntary organizations VANI shall map progress made on different SDGs, by conducting research amongst at least 50 CSOs across different states in India. Subsequently, at the macro level, VANI shall organize a National level multi-stakeholder engagement with the government and its think tank - Niti Aayog, private sector, multilateral and UN bodies, civil society, academia and media on the subject. Thereafter, as a hub, VANI shall prepare evidence-based narrative in the form of a policy paper with findings, suggestions and roadmap on the way forward.
