BOCONGO Partnership with the Business Community for Independent and Sustainable Resourcing of NGOs in Botswana
BOCONGO member organizations have been experiencing significant challenges in the area of resource mobilization over the years. This has largely been an outcome of the declaration of Botswana as an Upper Middle-income country in 2009 by the World Bank. This development resulted in the drying of many traditional funding streams. Currently most active NGOs are funded by Government. This severely impacts on the integrity of NGOs as watchdogs because the benevolence of government comes at the price of loyalty and allegiance. In order to graduate from this compromising reality, BOCONGO has been negotiating a partnership model with the business community for independent and sustainable funding of NGOs. Negotiations are ongoing, therefore BOCONGO is requesting for financial support to facilitate partnership negotiations. This process is anticipated to generate lessons and good practices that can be shared for benchmarking with other national network partners.
