Nigeria: Strengthening Civil Society Organisations' expertise in development financing

The Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO)  is a membership body for civil society organisations in Nigeria that facilitates effective advocacy on issues affecting development in Nigeria. Established in 1992, NNNGO represents over 3,900 organisations. Spread across the 36 States of the Federation, ranging from small groups working at the local level to larger networks working at the national level. Through their civil society reforms and strengthening programmes, they have constructively engaged regulators and the National Assembly on laws guiding the operations of civil society organisations to improve the operational environment for non-profits in Nigeria.

Selected as a partner for the Financing for Sustainable Development (FfSD) Forus project on “Strengthening the dialogue between civil society and public development banks (PDBs)”, NNNGO embarked on a mission to strengthen Civil Society Organizations' (CSOs) expertise in development financing. This included enhancing their capacity to influence the policies, procedures, and operations of PDBs. Additionally, NNNGO sought to foster collaboration within civil society, advocating for a rights-based approach in engaging with PDBs and shaping their agendas.

NNNGO spearheaded the creation of a "Mapping of National PDBs in Nigeria and their Operational Procedures Including Investments in Relation to the SDGs." This mapping provided crucial insights, forming the basis for informative materials like infographics, policy briefs, and civil society engagement guides. Through collaborative workshops, NNNGO worked hand-in-hand with diverse CSOs to craft an advocacy strategy, ensuring sustained engagement with national PDBs for impactful change.
