Strengthening Indian Civil Society in Global Development Finance
India is emerging as a key voice in global sustainable development finance through its role in BRICS, G20, and other international platforms. Yet, Indian civil society organizations (CSOs) remain underrepresented in these high-level discussions that shape global policies on debt, climate finance, and development cooperation.
VANI’s Cycle 7 (2026-2027) initiative addresses this gap by empowering local CSOs to engage meaningfully in international debates and influence global finance processes. The project strengthens technical understanding, fosters collaboration, and builds credible representation of Indian civil society in global forums such as the FfD Conference, Paris Peace Forum, and major development banks (ADB, NDB, AIIB).
Key activities include:
- A baseline study to map stakeholders and identify opportunities for CSO participation.
- A national workshop to unpack development finance dynamics and sustainable development challenges.
- Formation of an advisory group of CSO leaders to guide engagement strategies.
- Development of policy papers, roundtables, and articles amplifying Indian CSO perspectives internationally.
By enhancing coordination and evidence-based advocacy, this initiative aims to establish Indian CSOs as influential actors shaping development finance priorities and ensure that global decisions reflect democratic, inclusive dialogue.
