Strengthening the governance mechanisms of the national platform

KANGO’s project aims at strengthening the governance mechanisms of the national platform and its members for the monitoring of the SDGs as well as to better serve the communities in Kiribati in an increasingly transparent and accountable manner. After receiving initial training, members of CSO will conduct community consultations in 6 islands, both to conduct awareness on the SDGs and to determine how KANGO members are already contributing to its implementation. Ultimately, the project will contribute to bridge the data gaps that are required at the national level, linking the Agenda 2030 to the Strategic Priorities of the Kiribati 20-year Vision (KV20) plan, as well as amplify the voices of communities and share their messages with policy-makers. A national workshop will be held to validate the findings and a CSO community engagement mechanism toolkit will be produced. In addition, the project will seek to strengthen KANGO’s and its members’ knowledge of good governance and accountability, integrating these principles in the daily operations of these organisations. Based on international standards and linked to the regional level, several internal policies of KANGO and its members will be reviewed, which will contribute to the sustainability of these organisations after the end of the project.
