Advancing fundraising skills, digital capacity, and collaborative synergies for local impact

UNITAS, the Unión Nacional de Instituciones de Trabajo de Acción Social in Bolivia, focused on strengthening resource mobilisation, knowledge management, digital skills and collaborative capacities across its network. The project supported members to use new tools, participate in joint initiatives and build stronger connections around shared territorial priorities.

Project Description

UNITAS used Cycle 6 to strengthen the capacities of its national network in areas that are increasingly important for civil society organisations: fundraising, digital knowledge management, planning, monitoring and collaborative action. The project responded to the need for stronger institutional tools and more coordinated work among member organisations, particularly in a context where civil society actors are addressing sensitive socio-environmental and cultural issues.

A central output was the launch of a virtual learning platform covering topics such as Theory of Change, knowledge management, project management, planning and monitoringThis platform provided members with practical learning resources and contributed to a more structured approach to capacity strengthening.

By the end of the cycle, UNITAS reported reaching 90% of its members, exceeding its initial target of 60%. It also reported that 79% of member organisations actively contributed to joint territorial initiatives, compared with an initial target of 40%. According to the reflection, this helped strengthen network cohesion and contributed to a clearer sense of shared identity.

The project also supported a more decentralised and participatory working model. Members helped identify relevant themes and shape a common agenda with potential for continuation in 2026. UNITAS also reported that 72% of participants were applying newly acquired knowledge to knowledge management and fundraising, while 82% of member organisations highlighted the long-term relevance of the results.

For NGO networks, this project shows how investment in individual capacities can also strengthen institutional practice, shared agendas and collaboration across a network.

Learning

UNITAS’ experience shows that capacity strengthening works best when it is connected to members’ real priorities and when senior leadership is engaged from the beginning. The project also shows that digital tools are more useful when they are combined with technical support, ongoing monitoring and spaces for members to apply what they learn.
