Forus Council gathers in Cape Verde to shape future strategy

From 11 to 13 June 2025, members of the Forus Council will convene in Cape Verde to review progress, assess global trends, and shape the network’s strategic direction for the coming years. Elected every two years by the General Assembly, the Forus Council is composed of 15 members representing all regions. The Council plays a key role in ensuring the implementation of decisions made by the General Assembly, coordinating network activities, and supporting the proper functioning of the executive team.

In this year’s gathering, council members will engage in in-depth discussions on the upcoming Forus Strategy 2026–2030, reflecting on current challenges and opportunities facing civil society worldwide.

Over three days, participants are exploring what it means for civil society to remain impactful and resilient amid today's global challenges—from an enabling environment for civil society to global solidarity.

Key issues under discussion include how Forus can better support member collaboration, amplify local leadership, and strengthen its collective voice in global debates on sustainable development, financing, capacity strenghtening, local power, an enabling environment for civil society and digital governance, among others. The Council will also discuss proposals to strengthen Forus' internal governance, boost cross-regional learning, and continue to ensure a culture of solidarity and inclusion within the network. Crucially, the Council will explore how to embed a network perspective into every aspect of Forus’ future strategy. With civil society facing increasing constraints worldwide, this moment offers an opportunity for the network to shape a strategy rooted in collaboration, shared leadership, and adaptability.

This meeting also kicks off preparations for the next General Assembly in 2026, where the new strategy will be adopted. Stay tuned as Forus continues to evolve with its members, shaping bold and collective action!
