In Madagascar, PFNOSCM (Platform of Civil Society Organizations of Madagascar) has been playing for over 20 years a leading role in defending the environment and the rights of local communities in the face of high-impact social and ecological development projects.

As a dynamic civil society platform, PFNOSCM brings together community actors, young leaders, and human rights defenders to promote sustainable, fair, and inclusive development. Through concrete actions, it strengthens civic dialogue, ensures transparency, and works to make sure no one is left behind.

🔍 Key Actions:

  • Monitoring extractive projects, notably the Toliara Sands project. Despite its economic promises, the project raises major concerns. PFNOSCM supports peaceful protests and public awareness campaigns to ensure the rights of affected communities are respected.

  • Supporting young activists like Tsiazonaly, a human rights defender facing pressure, who continues to bravely fight for land rights, environmental justice, and human dignity.

  • Organizing events and workshops to create spaces for dialogue, build local capacity, and encourage sustainable alternatives.

  • Developing partnerships with other environmental and human rights networks to amplify impact and influence public policy.

📊 Real Impact: In 2024, over 20,000 people mobilized locally against projects deemed destructive, with PFNOSCM’s support. These grassroots movements show that change comes from the ground up, driven by united and informed communities.
