Advancing dialogue between social actors and public development banks across Colombia
The Confederación Colombiana de Organizaciones No Gubernamentales (CCONG) unites regional and departmental federations, associations, corporations, and national foundations dedicated to advancing the common good, sustainable development, and upholding human rights, governance, democracy, and peace.
Selected as a partner for the Financing for Sustainable Development (FfSD) Forus project on “Strengthening the dialogue between civil society and public development banks (PDBs)”, CCONG played a significant role in understanding the role PDBs within the national landscape and their interactions with other stakeholders in Colombia. They focused on enhancing transparency, fostering accountability, and identifying opportunities for collaboration on democracy and human rights issues.
In collaboration with its civil society membership network, CCONG developed and implemented an advocacy agenda, facilitating dialogue between CSOs and PDBs at local and national levels. They also crafted a pedagogical document aimed at comprehending the role of Colombian PDBs while advocating for their transparency and accountability. This initiative aimed to cultivate new avenues of dialogue to foster joint efforts in promoting development, peace, and democracy in Colombia. CCONG actively engaged in organizing and participating in meetings with CSOs and PDBs to disseminate recommendations and advance dialogue between social actors and PDBs. Additionally, they created a concise infographic based on the document's recommendations to enhance accessibility and understanding.
CCONG has been successful at linking its local to global advocacy agenda such as through participation in the Finance in Common Summit (2022-2023). In 2023, CCONG developed a statement for the Finance in Common Summit in Cartagena. CCONG also participated in the New Global Financial Pact Summit (2023) and in international meetings related to the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE).
