The Forus network at the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact
Forus members and partners will come together at the Summit for a new global Financing Pact in Paris, to discuss how to to build a more responsive, fairer and more inclusive international financial system to fight inequalities, finance the climate transition, and bring us closer to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Summit for a New Global Financing Pact
The Summit will include debate at the highest level between Heads of State and Government, leaders of international organizations, and representatives of civil society, foundations, funds and the private sector.
On 22 and 23 June, President Emmanuel Macron will convene heads of state and government, representatives of financial institutions, and representatives of the private sector and civil society in Paris to lay the foundation for a new system that is supposed to meet our shared challenges: global inequalities, rising inflation, and planetary polycrisis.
This ad-hoc and unprecedented gathering aims to lay the groundwork for a new system that will not only confront the challenges of our time but shape a more equitable and sustainable world. At the forefront of this movement are Forus members, who collectively recognise the urgency to combat inequality, address climate change, and safeguard biodiversity.
What are the objectives of the summit?
At the midpoint for implementation of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact aims at establishing the principles for future reforms and pave the way towards a more balanced financial partnership between the North and South. By facilitating access to necessary resources, the summit aspires to fortify populations against the devastating impacts of climate change, cutting carbon emissions and fostering resilience and harmony between humanity and the environment.
How is the Forus network engaging?
Forus will be part of this multi-stakeholder summit amplifying the voices of civil society with Heads of State, along with the leaders of multilateral development banks, international organisations, the private sector and other civil society networks. The Forus network seizes this moment as an opportunity to ignite ambition and rally for immediate action for economic, social, and climate justice. The active engagement of Forus members extends beyond the Summit, reverberating through crucial decision-making arenas throughout the year. One such significant gathering is the upcoming Finance in Common Summit in Cartagena, Colombia, set to unite hundreds of Public Development Banks.
As part of our network’s activities, we’ll activate an in-person meeting in Paris with over 10 Forus members to discuss issues relating to financing for sustainable development. Forus will be joining Global Citizen’s roundtable event: Power Our Planet: Act today. Save tomorrow. VANI, Forus member in India, will share during the panel discussion perspectives on private sector investment to finance climate and the SDGs.
Forus members joining the Summit include: VANI, India, ABONG, Brazil, ADA, Regional coalition in Asia, Repoac, Regional coalition in West Africa, Interaction, USA, NGO Federation of Nepal, Nepal, Coordination Sud, France, CCONG, Colombia. Forus Secretariat staff in attendance include: Sarah Strack, Executive Director, Marianne Buenaventura Goldman, Project Coordinator, Finance for Development.
Forus will be organising its next Finance for Development working group meeting on Thursday, 9 June from 13:00- 15:30 UTC. This webinar will include a session on member reflections on the Paris Summit. Please save the date and join the dialogue!
