#WeAreForus - "When Movements Connect" Podcast Series
When movements connect, change moves
This new Forus podcast series explores what happens when these different forms of organising come together and how transformative social change grows through collective action, shared power, solidarity and the ability to connect different struggles and voices.
Across the world, people are organising for change — from climate and gender justice to Indigenous rights, youth movements, disability rights and economic justice. But lasting change rarely comes from one organisation acting alone. It often happens when different forms of organising, knowledge, identity and power come together.
But how do these collaborations actually look like? How do organisations and movements find each other? How does the chemistry ignite? What do they build together, what do they learn from one another, and how does collective action shift policies, practices and power?
This series brings those stories to the forefront.
The Forus network connects national and regional civil society platforms across the world, working with thousands of organisations rooted in local realities.
According to Forus's membership data, 70% of our members have grassroots community organisations affiliated with their organisations, connecting local action with wider social and political change.
This Forus podcast series explores what happens when these different forms of organising come together and how transformative social change grows through collective action, shared power, solidarity and the ability to connect different struggles and voices.
Each episode tells the story of a concrete collaboration between a Forus member and a popular movement: what brought them together, what they worked on, how they worked together, and — most importantly — what changed because they did.
The series also brings listeners into the behind-the scenes of the realities of organising: the people involved, the challenges they faced, the power dynamics they navigated, and the changes they helped create.
This series builds on Forus’ growing body of storytelling work that puts the experiences, voices and work of National Civil Society Platforms and Regional Coalitions – together with their allies - at the centre. Through We Are Forus, we have been showcasing the value and diversity of Forus members and the change they are creating in their communities and beyond. We have also explored the voices and experiences of Gen Z and youth-led movements through multimedia storytelling and podcast episodes featuring young people and organisations from different countries. March With Us, our annual gender justice campaign, has brought together more than 150 activists since 2021 to share stories, perspectives and calls for change. Alongside these initiatives, A Space for Us has created a dedicated storytelling space for voices and experiences that are often underrepresented.
Editorial focus
Each episode follows a real collaboration between a National Civil Society Platform and a movement, exploring the following questions:
1. What brought them together?
What issue, struggle or shared priority created a connection between them? What made them decide to act together?
2. What did they do together?
What did their collaboration look like in practice, from a campaign or advocacy effort to a community initiative, collective action or movement? How did each find their role?
3. What changed?
What did they achieve together? What changed for communities, institutions, policies, public narratives or the balance of power?
4. What did they learn from each other?
How did working together change the way they organise, communicate, build power or understand the issue they are working on?
In this series we are exploring:
🌱 Climate and environmental movements
✊🏿 Gen Z, youth and student movements
🧡 Feminist and women's movements
🌎 Indigenous movements
♿ Disability rights movements
🏳️🌈 LGBTQI+ movements
✊🏽 Workers' and grassroots movements
💰 Economic justice movements
