In a context of globalized agricultural trade that weakens small-scale farmers in West Africa, the French Committee for International Solidarity (CFSI) and its partners are taking action to ensure that no one is left behind. The Terres Nourricières program promotes family farming capable of sustainably feeding populations while combating poverty and preserving ecosystems.
Led by CFSI, this project aims to:
- Raise awareness among citizens, especially young people, about the impact of our consumption habits;
- Support local food supply chains and boost their economic attractiveness;
- Influence French and European public policies to help transform food systems.
Concrete results in 2024:
-
Over 100,000 people mobilized through the ALIMENTERRE festival, 46% of whom were students;
-
2,500 film screenings and debates in 16 countries, 95% in France;
-
71 local economic initiatives supported in West Africa;
-
A strategic study published on the local milk sector;
-
High-level dialogue launched in Senegal on industrial fishing.
Goal for 2026: Mobilize 4,000 organizations in France and West Africa to jointly defend the right to fair and sustainable food.
This work aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and with the principles of Leaving No One Behind including:
- SDG 1 – No Poverty: Supports small farmers and local economies to reduce poverty.
- SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: Promotes sustainable family farming to ensure food security.
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production: Encourages awareness and local food systems to reduce waste and overconsumption.
- SDG 13 – Climate Action: Uses eco-friendly farming practices to protect ecosystems and fight climate change.
- SDG 17 – Partnerships: Builds strong networks between West Africa and France to transform food systems together.
