Online spaces were once seen as an opportunity for women and gender-diverse communities to express themselves freely, connect with others, and participate safely—without fear and with their rights respected. Instead of closing gaps, digital technologies are often widening them. Technology not only enables gender-based violence, but also amplifies it by creating new digital spaces for misogyny, harassment, and sexual abuse. This video by the Civil Society Alliances for Digital Empowerment - CADE - explores technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), including AI-driven harassment such as deepfakes, gendered disinformation, online abuse, and digital surveillance.
