SINERGIA - Venezuelan Network of Civil Society Organisations. Communiqué: Elections, Transparency and Democracy

SINERGIA, the Venezuelan network of civil society organisations, congratulates the Venezuelan people for the massive demonstration of their democratic conviction by participating civically and peacefully in the electoral process of 28 July. In order to ensure that their voice is heard, it requests:

1. That the National Electoral Council (CNE) fulfils its obligation to guarantee a transparent process of presentation of all the minutes and their corresponding audit, which ensures respect for the mandate of the people in the election called to elect the President of the Republic.
2. That the presentation of the minutes and their corresponding audit be carried out in a peremptory manner with all accredited witnesses and that the right of the citizens to demand it in a civic and peaceful manner be respected, as a guarantee that their voice has been heard and will be respected.
3. That repression against civic and peaceful citizen demonstrations, which have already led to regrettable events in terms of loss of life, injuries and arbitrary detentions, cease.

We thank political leaders, governments, institutions and international civil society organisations for their expressions of support for the legitimate demand for transparency to the National Electoral Council (CNE) as well as their accompaniment of the Venezuelan people in their desire to live in democracy. In this regard, we consider it important to point out that:

1. The current presidential cycle ends on 10 January 2025, when a new presidential term will begin. Once the official results of the election have been validated by the audit, a period of liaison and dialogue must begin in order to create the conditions for institutional strengthening and urgent social and economic measures that will benefit the population.
2. The election on Sunday 28 July is part of a longer-term process, which continues with the elections in December 2025 for the reconfiguration of the National Assembly, governorships, mayorships and municipal councils. This process will allow for the plurality and diversity of visions and proposals in these spaces for citizen participation and dialogue.

The Civil Society Organisations gathered in SINERGIA express our commitment to continue with capacity building actions for sustainable community and national development, humanitarian action, and the promotion and defence of human rights, with a view to building a democratic society that guarantees a dignified life for all people.

We call for the continuation of the democratic and peaceful path that was manifested on July 28th by the will of the Venezuelan people, building the future of Venezuela in the present.
