Spot It, Stop It, Tell It: The Misinformation Response Lab
How can civil society respond to misinformation and harmful narratives in an information environment increasingly shaped by declining trust, polarisation and shrinking attention spans?
Join us for “Spot It, Stop It, Tell It”: The Misinformation Response Lab, an interactive 90-minute session for Forus members who want to explore how misinformation spreads, how it affects civil society and international cooperation, and how we can respond more effectively.
The session will bring together insights from the EU SEE network with a presentation by researcher Lena Muhs, which monitors the enabling environment for civil society across more than 86 countries, contributions from Nfor Hanson Nchanji and Natali Carvalho journalists involved in the Forus Journalism Programme, and experiences from Forus members.
Through a lively “Real or Fake?” quiz, practical exercises and peer exchange, we will explore how harmful narratives take shape, identify the emotions and assumptions that fuel them, and test approaches to building credible, effective responses. Participants will also share tools and tactics they use to monitor narratives, strengthen public communication on the value of National Civil Society platforms and Regional Coalitions and counter misinformation in their own contexts.
What to expect:
-
Spot common misinformation and manipulation techniques.
-
Map harmful narratives affecting civil society in your context.
-
Explore prebunking, debunking and the role of trusted messengers.
-
Exchange practical tools, strategies and lessons with fellow Forus members.
