Innocent BUCHU is a freelance journalist who provides a space for expression and inspiration. Based in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, he has built a reputation as an insightful reporter at the intersection of media, culture, civic engagement and social, security and environmental issues in Africa's Great Lakes region. Buchu is known for his dedication to giving a voice to ordinary citizens. He covers the region mainly for BBC Africa. Through his reporting, Buchu has become a key figure in highlighting the importance of civil society engagement and the commitment of human rights defenders. He is the winner of the mongongo prize, awarded to the DRC's best journalist on health issues. For the Forus Journalism Fellowship he will be working with Florence INYABUNTU.
