Ethiopia
National NGO Platforms
The Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Associations (CCRDA) is Ethiopia’s first legally registered indigenous umbrella organisation for NGOs and CSOs, bringing together hundreds of national and international actors engaged in humanitarian response, sustainable development and governance. Founded in response to the 1973/74 famine, CCRDA has evolved from coordinating emergency relief to supporting long-term development, good governance and civic engagement across sectors such as food security, rural and urban development, health and HIV/AIDS, education, water and sanitation, environmental protection, gender equality and civic education. Today, CCRDA serves as a national platform for collective vision and action, facilitating resource mobilisation, information exchange, networking and learning, while strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to improve effectiveness, avoid duplication and maximise impact. Rather than implementing projects directly, CCRDA provides technical, institutional and financial support to its members and partners, promotes an enabling environment for civil society, and champions societal transformation grounded in human dignity, justice, peace and equality.
